Lord, Let me See Again

Luke 18:35-43

As he approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard a crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, ‘Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.’ Then he shouted, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’ Those who were in front sternly ordered him to be quiet; but he shouted even more loudly, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me!’ Jesus stood still and ordered the man to be brought to him; and when he came near, he asked him, ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ He said, ‘Lord, let me see again.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Receive your sight; your faith has saved you.’ Immediately he regained his sight and followed him, glorifying God; and all the people, when they saw it, praised God.

As a priest in the Church, I admit that I like a well-attended Mass. There is an energy that seems to be brought by numbers, yet I know numbers alone are not a measure of faith. In the gospel reading today there are many people who clearly see Jesus passing by. The blind man, however, can’t see and is told to be quiet as he shouts, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” (v.38)

The blind man regained his sight. He regained his sight, meaning he once saw but had grown blind.

Lord, Son of David, Messiah, Christ, Light of the World, King of the Universe, Redeemer, Holy One, Hight Priest, Lamb of God, let me see you as the blind man saw you and help me regain my spiritual sight. I feel blinded by the people screaming at me. Let me see you, Son of David, for I need your mercy.

I approach the Altar in my need. Me seeking to see Jesus, Son of David.

Jesus hears me and stands still. (v.40)

He asks me, “What do you want me to do for you?” (v.41)

Lord, help me regain my spiritual sight. I know you; I have seen you; help me see you again.

“Lord, let me see again.” (v.41)

"Immediately he regained his sight and followed him, glorifying God; and all the people, when they saw it, praised God." (v.43)

Thank you, for granting this grace. I follow you, in glory to God.
